organization Rucanor Europe started in 1956, in a 16m2 basement. The name Rucanor was originated because the founder of Rucanor, Jacob van Rijswijk, came up with Rucan (Rubber and CANvas). But that name had to be adjusted, because there already was an other company with that name. At the Trade Registration Office a woman suggested to extend the name with OR which means Gold. Therefore Rucanor. The name Rucanor came in to being: Rubber and Canvas is gold. Later, the name also has been translated as: Rubber Canvas Organization or Rubber Canvas Originals. Up till now rubber and canvas still returns at Rucanor. The best selling sneaker with laces ever: the Rucanor 281 still exists and is essentially identical to the first shoe of 1956. Of course rubber and canvas! Rucanor Europe started as a Dutch family business and has grown to an international organization with powerful brands, own offices in at least 9 countries, distributors and agents in more than 30 countries, 15.000 retailers and millions of sportive customers all over the world.
